New York CNN —Beyoncé was crowned “queen of the box office” after her concert movie topped the box office in its opening weekend. “Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé,” a documentary about the artist’s record-breaking world tour, raked in $21 million since its Friday opening, according to BoxOfficeMojo. “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes” placed second, grossing $14.5 million and “Godzilla Minus One” debuted with an $11 million opening. Notably, “Renaissance” became the first film in two decades to cross the $20 million benchmark for its opening weekend following Thanksgiving, a typically sluggish one. So far this year, domestic theaters have grossed $8.26 billion, about $740 million shy of the $9 billion plus expected for the full year.

My Impossible Mission to Find Tom Cruise

These were Keston Park’s problems — not mine and probably not Tom Cruise’s. Tom Cruise, as he and I both now knew, was most likely secretly living at another estate I had turned up in my research — one that was even closer to the airport. Tom Cruise would be crazy not to live here, I thought as I stroked the soft, sun-warmed mane of a little white donkey. Except, upon my arrival at the end of an idyllic woodland stroll, I discovered that Cruise did not live there either. I righted the gnome and ambled on, in search of another public footpath that would, I hoped, lead me to where Cruise actually lived.

CNN —It’s not surprising that Apple’s debut Monday of its $3,499 Vision Pro headset integrating virtual and augmented reality was greeted with mixed reactions, including skepticism, criticism and even lampooning. Each previous incarnation of a headset that immerses the wearer in a virtual world (called virtual reality, or VR) or lets wearers see their surroundings with virtual objects overlaid on them (augmented reality, or AR) started with overhyped expectations only to flame out. I am also doing my doctoral research on the history of virtual and augmented reality (known together as “extended reality”). These apps will be available to Vision Pro users as well. It’ll do anything your Mac or iPhone can do — and more.”And that’s why I believe that over time Apple’s Vision Pro will actually make science fiction scenarios of ubiquitous computing a reality.

Theaters Need a Wider Slate of Blockbusters This Summer

Tom Cruise’s ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ racked up a global box office of nearly $1.5 billion. Photo: Paramount/Everett CollectionTom Cruise saved movie theaters last summer. As the summer movie season kicks off, hopes are high for a box office that looks much closer to the prepandemic norm. 3” gave the actual season a decent start with a $114 million domestic debut this past weekend. Taking in the most recent weekend’s tally, the domestic box office this year is tracking about 25% below the same point in 2019, according to Box Office Mojo.
“Maverick” flew into theaters with lots of buzz and strong reviews, and that helped the movie blow past box office projections for its opening weekend. It brought in a Memorial Day weekend record of $160 million at the North American box office. “Maverick” is an old-school box office hit made for the biggest screen possible that emerged just as the industry’s future was very much in doubt. “The commercial reception of Tom Cruise’s legacy sequel was the summer movie miracle theaters needed,” Scott Mendelson, a box office reporter, wrote for Forbes. Climbing back up the mountain"We really felt, and Tom certainly agreed with the fact that we had a great big screen movie," Bakish said.
CNN —Brendan Fraser wasn’t a part of the 2017 reboot of “The Mummy,” but he has a theory about why the Tom Cruise led film wasn’t a blockbuster. “It is hard to make that movie,” Fraser told Variety. “The ingredient that we had going for our Mummy, which I didn’t see in that film, was fun. ‘The Mummy’ should be a thrill ride, but not terrifying and scary.”Fraser starred in the 1999 film, which kicked of the franchise and two sequels. These days he’s winning rave reviews and sparking Oscars chatter for his performance as an extremely obese man seeking to reconnect with his estranged daughter in the forthcoming film, “The Whale.”But Fraser said he would not be against returning for another “Mummy” film.
